I received the product and upon opening it up I found there were no maps loaded on unit. I had to send it back to mfg for warranty. They actually replaced it with a different unit, same model. I was not happy with the fact that it did not work out of the box as it suppose to.

The unit is very good. I do have a major gripe. I decided on this unit because of the 1 year of quarterly map updates for $39.95. Tried to buy this service – found out it is not available for the 140S. Yet? Do not know what other models do not have this service. Yet?

This Tomtom had problems right out of the box. It took a long time to capture a signal and lost it frequently when it did find a signal.
I than downloaded an update form Tomtom and it only gives me a flashing red X. I called Tech support and they close at 7pm! I am currently waiting for someone to answer this morning and it has been 31 minutes!
Back it goes for a full refund!!!!!!

After five calls to customer service which were of no help they decide to authorize an RMA due to their faulty software updates that left the device w/out a workable map. They tried to get me to pay for shipping by lying and saying that shipping would be taken care of at FEDEX by showing them the RMA number. After the 6th call to CS, then and only then, did they email a shipping label. When I received the device back from TonTom it doesn’t receive a signal and they didn’t return one with a mounting bracket (the one I purchased originally had the bracket attached and I didn’t think to remove it). I could go on about how bad this company and their customer service are, but I’ve wasted enough time on this company already. Stay far away from this company. From now on it wil be any GPS maker, BUT TomTom receiving my business.

I really dont undertand all the hype around this Model…. The screen size is OK but gets substantially reduced by excessively large margin information/display..Hey Im buying this mostly for the Nav/Map display info not to see how fast im going in headlines..The small disply get reduced by another ~25%!
Map views are finnickey to navigate. I couldent imagine adjusting them while driving..Screen brightness is barely acceptable and it could handle glare better, the mount while robust, also has a propensity to fail with excessive adjustment… if you need to find locations befor hand and also have an idea of what is in the adjoining area…be prepared to struggle with the finneky map settings, fight overly large icons/boarders, and deal with poor resolution on a postage stamp sized diplay…
Compared to my Nuvi 200 its night and Day..The Nuvi has clear display and intuitive navigating in BOTH 3d and Map …very simple to use under a bit of sress as one would encounter in going to a new area..
On the plus side, the voice prompts are exceptional and pleasant , and the 3D travel image is very nicely done a tad better that the Garmin …also many nice features abound deep in the menues…the menu system like any works well once you get acclimated to it..The software set up is slick and the features are trendy too
I bought this as a smaller travel unit to take on plane travel….but the Map display is so poor and the learning curve a bit higher than the intuitive Nuvi … I just dont see much benefit…Plus I have been using GPS systems for over 10 years so I understand many of the functional features
This is a decent unit and does very well if you just want to “plug and play” relying on the 3d View/Voice to get you to your detination ..which apparently most folks want….If you want to really “understand” your surroundings and become familiar with the area be prepared to stuggle with the poor low res Map display and its quirky settings…and forget about looking at the Map display while driving…
Overall I spent some time with this to make it a go… BUT in the end I am very dissapointed and its getting returned….
