Second Chance Checking Account
A second chance checking account is a checking account for people who have bad credit or are on the chexsystems list. Someone in this position is going to have a difficult time getting a checking account the old fashioned way. The banks are going to notice horrible credit or your name on the chexsystems list and deny you shortly after. In order for you to get a new checking or bank account, you will need to get a second chance checking account. This type of account is a program that banks have to give people who have had a bad financial history another chance at banking. Some of them will have a trial period, where if you do well within, say a 6 month period, you will be able to graduate to a full regular checking account. Some banks will give you second chance account with the regular benefits right off the bat. It all depends on the bank you use, and this will sometimes be decided by how close the bank is located to you. Sometimes, you might decide to join a bank that is further away from you because the benefits are much better than a different bank that is closer. When you have a second chance checking account, it is possible that the bank could cancel your account if you begin getting NSF fees. They already know that you might have problems, and they do not want to keep your account open if you continue to let NSF fees stack up. Although some second chance banks might charge a small fee each month, there are a lot of free second chance checking accounts out there. Regular banks have this program, and also credit unions have a second chance account. You can also find a lot of banks that will have an online application for you to open a second chance checking account. Once you get your second chance account, you should begin by fixing your credit, and if your name is on Chex Systems, attempt to have your name removed from that report. The first thing you will need to do is pay back any bank that you owe money from a negative balance on any accounts. Once you do that, you can ask the bank to have your name removed from the list. If they do not opt to do it, you can contact Chex Systems, Inc. and attempt to have them remove your name. Your name will be on Chexsystems for 5 years otherwise. So if you are having a problem getting a new checking account, it is because you either have bad credit, or you are on chexsystems. One way to get an easy account is to get a second chance checking account.
